This article will cover how to troubleshoot some scenarios your Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt may encounter.

## Yellow LED turned off during set up

If the yellow LED turns off, simply press the Yale logo to reenter Setup Mode and proceed to set up your first entry code.

## Auto-Lock stopped working

Make sure Auto-Lock is enabled by checking the toggle closes to the mode button under the battery cover. To turn Auto-Lock on, make sure the toggle is to the left towards the "A". If the toggle is to the right towards the "M" the lock is on Manual Lock. If Auto-Lock is still not working, change the batteries.

## Lock does does not sit flush on the door

If the lock is not sitting flush with the door:

1. Remove the interior side of the lock.
2. Loosen the two screws to the mounting plate.
3. Loosen the two screws on the deadbolt latch.
4. Make sure the exterior keypad is flush against the door and straight. Make sure the mounting plate is straight and tighten screws to secure the mounting plate.
5. With the thumbturn in the correct direction needed for handing and the tailpiece in a horizontal position press the lock against the mounting plate and tighten the three pre-installed screws.
6. Tighten the two screws on the deadbolt latch if needed.

## Deadbolt does not extend when using One-Touch Locking

Your lock was not handed properly. See [How to Hand your Yale Code](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/how-to-hand-your-yale-code-SyLlwng80) to adjust your handing.

## Deadbolt extends when entering entering an entry code

Lock was not handed properly. See [How to Hand your Yale Code](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/how-to-hand-your-yale-code-SyLlwng80) to adjust your handing.

## The key provided does not unlock the door

Lock was not handed properly. See [How to Hand your Yale Code](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/how-to-hand-your-yale-code-SyLlwng80) to adjust your handing.

## One-Touch Locking with Yale button locks the door, then immediately unlocks the door

Lock was not handed properly. See [How to Hand your Yale Code](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/how-to-hand-your-yale-code-SyLlwng80) to adjust your handing.

## Lock does not respond

If the lock is not responding:

1. Press the Yale logo to activate the keypad.
2. Verify contact with the logo.
3. Check batteries are installed and oriented correctly in battery case. Replace batteries if needed.
4. Check that the keypad wire is fully connected and not pinched.

## Lock does not respond, door is locked and inaccessible

If the lock is not responding:

1. Batteries may not have enough power. Replace batteries.
2. Use the mechanical key to unlock the door.

## Lock is on but then shows no reaction, LED indicator dims

If the lock is on for a while then shows no reaction and the LED indicator dims, the batteries do not have enough power and should be replaced.

## Lock chimes to show the correct code was entered, but door will not open

If the deadbolt will not retract:

1. Check for any foreign objects between door and frame.
2. Check that the wire is firmly connected to the interior lock.

## Lock responds with steady red LED and 5 beeps

If your lock has a steady red LED and has made 5 beeps, this is the low battery warning. Replace all four (4) batteries with new AA alkaline batteries.

## Entry code will not register

If an entry code will not register, check the following:

1. If LED is steady red and the lock produced 5 beeps, change batteries.
2. Verify that your entry code consists of 4 to 8 digits.
3. Entry code must be entered while the keypad is in Setup Mode. or Create Additional Entry Code Mode. For the first entry code, press Yale logo to re-enter Setup Mode. For additional entry codes, see [Yale Code: Entry Codes](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/yale-code-entry-codes-Sy0x1_Q8R)

## Entering an entry code and pressing the Yale logo causes red LED/the lock times out

If the entry code is not unlocking the door, and you are seeing red on the LED indicator or the lock times out without responding: verify the entered code is a valid, previously programmed, 4 to 8 digit code.

## Lock operates but makes no sound

Check if the toggle for Audio Mode on the interior lock under the battery cover is deactivated.

1. Audio Mode can be turned on or off via the middle toggle above the batteries.
2. Move the toggle to the left to turn Audio on.
3. Move the toggle to the right to turn Audio off.

## Lock automatically locks with the door open

Auto-Lock automatically extends the deadbolt after 30 seconds of the deadbolt being retracted/unlocked. To disable Auto-Lock see [Yale Code: Auto-Lock.](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/yale-code-auto-lock-ByOOYezPA)

## Deadbolt tries to lock 3 times before LED flashes red, keypad flashes, and lock beeps 5 times

The deadbolt is jamming. See the below issue "Deadbolt is jamming/not fully extending.

## Deadbolt is jamming/not fully extending

After a jam, using the thumbturn or key to unlock the door may require additional pressure. After the deadbolt is in unlocked position, it should be smooth to operate. To avoid future jamming issues, see the below troubleshooting steps.

* **Deadbolt is hitting the strike plate**
    * Reposition the strike plate to align with deadbolt.
* **Deadbolt is not fully extending**
    * Increase depth of the deadbolt strike pocket in the frame. Make sure that the strike pocket depth is at least 1”.
* **Resistance when locking deadbolt that requires pushing or pulling on the door**.
    * Adjust your existing knob, lever, or handleset strike plate. Latch engagement into the strike is the main component used for door alignment.
        * To adjust knob / lever / handleset strike plate:
            1. Remove plate from door frame with a hand screwdriver. Note: Using an electric driver may strip screw heads or enlarge screw holes.
            2. Locate tab on strike plate. Bend the tab towards surface of strike. Note: A small change may be all that is required.
            3. Reinstall strike plate using a screwdriver and test again.
            4. If door cannot be adjusted sufficiently with strike tab, both knob/lever/handleset latch and deadbolt could require adjustment – we suggest you contact a local locksmith for assistance.
* **Key won’t release in unlocked position**.
    * Remove the interior lock and mounting plate. Rotate the tailpiece so the keyhole is facing the direction shown![](https://cdn.prod2.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/5f6cab56313fd9001af97923/fbe2bce375cdbc6fbe6c8af4eacf133c.png). Then test the deadbolt using the key and ensure the key can be removed from the cylinder while the lock is in the unlocked position. Make sure the tailpiece is in the horizontal position and the key hole is in the direction shown  **![](https://cdn.prod2.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/5f6cab56313fd9001af97923/c54d715420a423a6d6c5e5b76b389c6c.png)** before reinstalling the mounting plate and the interior of the lock.
