This article will cover the steps you need to take to set a Master Entry Code for your Yale Smart Lock. Master codes are specifically for the following locks:

  

*   Yale Assure Locks
*   Yale Assure Lock for Andersen Patio Doors
*   Yale Assure Levers

  

  

❗**_Have an Assure Lock 2?_** You have a Programming Code instead of a Master Code. Your Programming Code is used for diagnostics and troubleshooting with [Support](mailto:Support@YaleLock.com). ### What is a Master Entry Code?

The Master Entry Code is used to change the lock settings. A security best practice is to set your Master Entry Code with 6 or more digits and create a separate code that is used daily to lock and unlock the door.

  

### When do I need a Master Code?

Your Master Code is used to:

*   Set up your lock
*   Change any lock settings, such as:
    *   Entry codes
    *   Auto-Lock
    *   Volume
    *   Lock handing
    *   Privacy mode
    *   Inside LED lights
    *   Network setup

### Setting your Master Code

1.  Press the Yale logo, or any key, to wake up the lock
2.  Press the number 1
3.  Press the gear icon (⚙)
4.  Enter a 4-8 digit master code
5.  Press the gear icon (⚙)
