If the batteries in your device are draining faster than they should, the following troubleshooting steps may help:

1. Check the device to ensure the wiring is not pinched or damaged. Verify that the harness (white cable) is routed correctly. It should be wired under the deadbolt latch and through the vertical rectangular hole inside the mounting plate.
2. Make sure your lock is installed correctly.
    * An incorrectly installed lock might force the motor to work harder than normal. That could lead to reduced battery life.
    * Make sure to check the following:

        1. Is the tailpiece installed properly through the latch bolt?
        2. Is your thumbturn is moving freely?
        3. Has your door has been properly prepped? (Meaning the door frame is 1" deep and there is no jam alarm when the door is closed and locked)
        4. You may wish to review the needs for your lock, which can be found on the [Compatibility Checker page](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/compatibility-checker-r1EhREpFV).

* The video below shows you how to align or realign your door to ensure your lock functions the best it can.

*   Reduce deadbolt friction

    * Make sure that your deadbolt and the strike plate in your doorframe are properly aligned with no friction during deadbolt movement. Resistance to the movement of the deadbolt will force the motor to work harder than normal and reduce battery life.[\[](https://assaabloy.kustomerapp.com/app/settings/kb/articles/67d2e9d1b8ebe90d74387758/edit#_msocom_1)
