##

## What is Handing?

Handing a lock involves setting the direction that the lock throws the deadbolt. The Assure Lock 2 is designed to fit both right-handed and left-handed doors, and will electronically set the correct handing during the initial set-up process.

## How to Hand Your Deadbolt

During setup/installation, your lock will automatically hand itself. The following steps can be used to hand your lock at setup:

1. Download the Yale Access App
2. Open the menu in the Yale Access App
3. Tap **Set up a Device**
4. Scan the QR code on the inside of your Assure Lock 2
5. Install your Assure Lock 2 by following the in-app instructions
6. Insert optional radio module
7. Your lock will hand itself and extend the deadbolt

This completes the steps for handing a deadbolt.

## Troubleshooting

You may need to re-hand your lock in the following cases:

* If the lock was programmed off the door and the lock will not lock or unlock itself
* If the lock is moved to a new door

If either of these cases happen, the following steps can be taken to re-hand:

1. From the Yale Access App, select the **Lock Settings icon**
2. Select the lock you need to re-hand
3. Select **Handing Calibration** from the **Utilities** section of the Lock Settings menu
4. Follow the instructions in the app to re-hand your lock

If the Yale Access App will not perform the re-hand function, you can re-hand your lock through the keypad menu by following these steps:

1. Retrieve your programming code from the Yale Access App
2. Enter the programming code on your lock's keypad
3. Press the Gear icon on your lock's keypad. This allows you to enter the programming menu
4. From this menu, select 3, followed by the gear icon
5. Press 5 followed by the gear icon

The lock will then re-hand itself.
