# How to Create Entry Codes In-App

This article will walk you through creating entry codes (also called pin codes) in the [Yale Access](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/download-the-yale-access-app-H1uHlkw) or [August](https://support.august.com/how-to-download-the-august-app-rJrU8C3b8) app. 

  

  

  

### **What is an entry code?**

  

Entry codes, or pin codes, are 4-8 digit number combinations that can be entered to unlock your Yale smart lock. Entry codes are created by an Owner of a smart lock. Entry codes can be created for different [access levels and schedules](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/types-of-guest-access-rkN8k6zdN).

  

  

**💡 Are you using an Assure Lock 2?** You will need a Wi-Fi bridge or module to access **Temporary** and **Recurring** access.

  

  

### **To create an entry code for a Guest user:**

  

1.  In the Yale Access or August app, tap the **Guest** (![](https://cdn.prod2.kustomerhostedcontent.com/media/5f6cab56313fd9001af97923/22103c81ebc7e390a07d21b5ff62e425.png)) icon at the bottom of the screen.  
      
    
2.  Tap **Invite**.

3.  Select whether the Guest should have **App Access** or **Entry Code Only**.

    💡 **App Access** allows your Guest to lock and unlock your door with the Yale Access app. You will be able to grant your Guest app and entry code access with this option.
    
      
    
    💡 **Entry Code Only** allows your Guest to lock and unlock your door without needing the the Yale Access app. The Guest will only be able to access your door using the entry code you set for them.  
      
      
    
4.  Select an invite option: **Invite via Mobile Number** or **Invite a Contact**.

5.  Select the type of access your Guest should have: **Always, Recurring, or Temporary**.

    💡 **Always** gives your user 24/7 access.  
    💡 **Recurring** repeats your user's access on a weekly basis.  
    💡 **Temporary** limits your user's access to a set start and end time.  
      
      
    
6.  Tap **Send Invite**.
