This article explains what it means to hand your deadbolt or lever, provides the steps needed to complete the handing process, as well as any additional troubleshooting if you encounter issues.

  

#### What is Handing?

Handing a lock involves setting the direction that the lock throws the deadbolt. Yale Locks and Levers are designed to fit both right-handed and left-handed doors and will electronically set the correct handing during the initial set-up process.

  

#### How to Hand Your Deadbolt

During setup / installation, you will be prompted to hand your lock. The following steps can be used to hand your lock at setup:

1.  Install the deadbolt on the door
2.  Insert optional radio module
3.  Insert batteries
4.  Wake up the keypad

6.  Make sure the lock is in the retracted unlocked position
7.  Touch keypad again
8.  Lock will hand itself and extend the bolt

This completes the steps for handing a deadbolt.

#### Troubleshooting

You may need to re-hand your lock in the following cases:

*   If the lock was programmed off the door and the lock will not lock / unlock itself.
*   If the lock is moved to a new door

  

If either of these cases happen, the following steps can be taken to re-hand:

1.  Enter master code
2.  Press the gear icon
3.  Make sure the lock is in the retracted unlocked position
4.  Press 5, press the gear icon, press the gear icon
5.  Lock will hand itself and extend the bolt
