Matter is the new universal standard for smart home devices.  Many smart home devices today aren't compatible with each other because they use different standards and protocols. Matter was specifically designed to ensure that devices from different manufacturers can talk to each other. The result is a more interoperable smart home: more choice and better experiences for you, the consumer.  ## Why would I use Matter over another technology? What's most unique about Matter is that it's a secure, open source technology developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, which means it's not tied to any specific brand or company.  Smart Home industry leaders like Google, and hundreds of smart home device manufacturers alike have committed to supporting Matter, which will help ensure that Matter is the industry standard moving forward. ## What is the battery life? When enrolled in a Matter fabric, YRD256 should have 12 months of battery life. ## What do I need to use Matter? You will need: 1. A Matter-compatible Yale lock ❗ **_Currently, YRD256 is compatible with the Matter module._**  2. You can either use the Google Home app, Apple Home app, Amazon Alexa app, or the Samsung SmartThings app. ❗ **_The Yale Access app is not compatible with the Yale Assure Lock SL with Matter (YRD256-MT1)._** ## What technology does Yale's Matter module use? Yale's module is Matter over Thread, and requires a Thread border router. ❗ **_Currently, the YRD256 is Matter compatible. You will need to purchase the lock bundle to use Matter._** ## What Matter Over Thread border routers does the Matter Module work with? Matter is still a growing standard and not all partners offer the same number of lock features.  \>While Yale locks are capable of doing many things over Matter, a partner may only choose to show select features. Please be sure to check what options your Matter control system will support to ensure you have the features you need available. ### ### **Installation** ## How do I install my Matter-enabled lock? You can follow the instructions in [this article](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/how-to-install-yale-assure-lock-sl-with-matter-HJP8eoMSn). ## Should I enable my Matter hub or install my devices first? Your Matter hub needs to be set up before starting your lock install. This will ensure the best setup experience. ## How far can the lock be from a border router? The range of your device will be dependent on the construction of your house. You can expect an indoor range of roughly 50 feet. ### ### **Troubleshooting** ## What if I don't know my Master code? Please [reset your Assure Lock](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/assure-lock-factory-settings-HJqlWgZJD). ## What if I don't have the menu option 7 after installing the module? Please [reset your Assure lock](https://support.shopyalehome.com/en_us/assure-lock-factory-settings-HJqlWgZJD). ## Why is my system saying it cannot find my lock? The Matter module may be completing a firmware update of your lock. If the **1** button on your lock is solid after you try putting your lock into pairing mode, your lock is completing a firmware upgrade. Your device is ready to join the Matter network when the **1** button on the lock is slowly flashing.
